We do our merit increases in July each year. 

An employee who advances or promotes during the year still qualifies for a full merit in July. We used to do a prorated amount based off their old wage and then on their new wage but it was a nightmare to calculate and make sure we did it right and keeping track of everyone. So we finally changed it so that they just get their full merit.
